New Delhi, July 14. The domestic stock market appeared to be under pressure during early trading and began on a weak note today. After the market opened, buyers maintained some momentum for a while, leading to a slight improvement in the movement of both the Sensex and the Nifty indices. However, after the first 10 minutes of trading, selling pressure resurfaced, causing both indices to weaken further. After the first hour of trading, the Sensex was down 0.62 percent and the Nifty was trading 0.53 percent lower.
After the first hour of trading, among the blue-chip companies in the stock market, shares of Cipla, Hindalco Industries, Bharti Airtel, TCS, and Nestlé were trading higher by 1.58 percent to 0.84 percent. On the other hand, shares of Shriram Finance, InterGlobe Aviation, HCL Technologies, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Bajaj Finance were trading lower by 3.49 percent to 2.11 percent.
So far, active trading was taking place in 2,703 stocks in the market. Of these, 866 stocks were trading in the green with gains, while 1,837 stocks were trading in the red with losses. Similarly, among the 30 stocks included in the Sensex, 8 stocks remained in the green with buying support, while 22 stocks were trading in the red under selling pressure. Among the 50 stocks included in the Nifty, 19 were trading in the green and 31 were trading in the red.
The BSE Sensex opened today at 77,272.34 points, down 344.06 points or 0.44 percent. Buying began as soon as the market opened, allowing the index to recover nearly 130 points from its opening level within the first 10 minutes of trading and reach 77,402.79 points. Thereafter, selling pressure emerged, causing the Sensex to decline steadily.
Due to continued selling, around 10:00 a.m. the index fell by more than 550 points to 77,063.41 points. Amid ongoing buying and selling, after the first hour of trading, at 10:15 a.m., the Sensex was trading at 77,135.08 points, down 481.32 points.
Like the Sensex, the NSE Nifty also started trading today at 24,068 points, down 143 points or 0.59 percent. Supported by buying immediately after the market opened, the index recovered about 90 points from its opening level to reach 24,157.10 points. After buying continued for the first 10 minutes, selling pressure emerged, causing the Nifty to weaken.
Due to sustained selling, around 10:00 a.m. the index dropped to 24,050.55 points, down by more than 160 points. After that, buyers once again attempted to build buying momentum, leading to a slight improvement in the index's position. Amid continuous buying and selling, after the first hour of trading, at 10:15 a.m., the Nifty was trading at 24,083.75 points, down 127.25 points.
Earlier, on the previous trading day, Monday, the Sensex had closed at 77,616.40 points, up a marginal 47.01 points or 0.06 percent. Meanwhile, the Nifty ended Monday's trading at 24,211 points, posting a nominal gain of 4.10 points or 0.02 percent.
