In a scathing attack, the Congress party has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over corruption related issues by his government..
On Monday, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that PM Modi’s slogan, "I will neither engage in corruption nor allow others to do so," has proved completely hollow, and that for him it has always been a case of "I will eat, let others eat, and feed others."
In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh also said that after becoming Prime Minister in May 2014, Narendra Modi had given the slogan, "I will neither engage in corruption nor allow others to do so," but subsequent events have exposed the reality behind that claim.
Referring to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remarks on demonetization, he said that Singh had described it as "organized loot and legalized plunder."
The Congress leader alleged that the merger of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) into ONGC was an attempt to conceal an alleged ₹20,000 crore scam.
He described the electoral bonds scheme as a "donate money, get business" scam, claiming that it encouraged large-scale corruption.
Ramesh also targeted the central government by referring to the Adani Group issue, the Rafale deal, the PM CARES Fund, and the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
The Congress leader claimed that several incidents in recent weeks have raised questions about the government’s anti-corruption claims.
He alleged that a case of misuse of donations from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has come to light; that despite the Supreme Court directing a CBI investigation against the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, he continues to remain in office; and that no action has been taken despite allegations that the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh benefited his relatives.
Jairam Ramesh also alleged that opposition parties are being split through financial inducements, that a Minister of State in the central government continues to hold office despite receiving a subsidy under a scheme of his own ministry.
He said that the sudden removal of four close associates from the Environment Ministry has raised questions, that decisions related to E20 petrol are aimed at benefiting the family of a Union minister, and that members of the Delhi Chief Minister’s family are playing an active role in governance and administration.
He also targeted Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that during his tenure the examination system has become corrupt and compromised, dealing a blow to the hopes of millions of young people.
The Congress leader demanded an impartial investigation into all these matters and called on the government to provide answers.
