Yellapur, 09 July - At least six people were killed and four others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between a Cruiser vehicle and a truck near Balgar in Arabail Ghat of Yellapur taluk in Uttara Kannada district early on Thursday.
According to police, the victims, who were tourists from Dharwad, were travelling to Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision was so severe that the Cruiser vehicle was completely mangled.
The deceased have been identified as Basavaraj (48), Abhishek Ishwar (28), Akshay (26), Abhishek (26), Sanjeev/Sanjay Angadi, and another person who succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the hospital.
The injured, identified as Shivaraj Durgappa Madival (22), Manjunath Ashok Chulaki (32), Sachin, and Chennabasayya Basalingayya Sampagaon (28), have been admitted to hospital and are undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Police from Yellapur visited the accident site, shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination, and registered a case. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
