Manipur Police and security forces carried out a series of successful operations across the state, leading to the arrest of several insurgent cadres, recovery of arms, ammunition and explosives, and action against criminal activities over the last 24 hours.
On Monday, Manipur Police arrested an alleged extortionist and active cadre of the UNLF (P), identified as Moirangthem Naoba Meitei (32), from the Porompat Police Station area in Imphal East district. Police recovered a Thompson repeater single-barrel gun with a licence, along with two Baofeng handheld communication sets and their chargers.
In another operation, security personnel conducting area domination and foot patrols at Chiru village in Kangpokpi district recovered a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) and four locally made mortar shells.
Security forces also apprehended two juvenile active cadres of the KNF (MC) from P. Geljang in Churachandpur district. A total of 77 rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition were seized from their possession.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested K. Luckyson Pundi (33) from his residence in Maram Bazar, Senapati district, in connection with a case registered at the Women Police Station, Senapati.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested an alleged extortionist and active cadre of the NRFM, Sorokhaibam Pari Singh alias Ibungo (27), from Imphal East district. He was reportedly involved in a recent firing incident at a residence in Pangei to intimidate residents and extort money.
Another active cadre of the URF, identified as Md. Imran Khan alias Carbine (29), was also arrested from Khurai Nandeibam Leikai in Imphal East district during a security operation.
