Samajwadi Party National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the BJP government of ruining the education and examination system. He said that repeated paper leaks, irregularities in recruitment examinations, the closure of government schools, and rising unemployment have pushed the future of young people into darkness. He added that if the situation in education and employment is not improved, the country's demographic dividend will turn into a major challenge.
Addressing a dialogue on the topic "Education and Examinations: Why Has the System Collapsed?" during the 'Vision India' program held in Prayagraj, Akhilesh Yadav said that education is the foundation of any nation. When the education system and examination process become weak, the greatest loss is suffered by the youth and the country's future. He said that repeated paper leaks, the cancellation of examinations, and increasing unemployment have heightened mental stress among young people, and many candidates have even died by suicide out of despair.
He alleged that the BJP government has weakened the entire education system from kindergarten to postgraduate studies. Thousands of government schools are being closed, universities have become victims of political interference, and the education budget is being continuously reduced. He said that instead of spending on education and research, the government is spending more money on advertisements.
Akhilesh Yadav said that teachers are being assigned various non-academic duties instead of teaching, while schools lack basic facilities. He alleged that primary schools in villages are being shut down in the name of mergers, affecting the education of young children, especially girls. Raising the issue of vacant teaching positions in higher education institutions, he said that appointments are being withheld by declaring qualified candidates as "not found suitable."
The SP president also said that the neglect of reservation policies in recruitment processes, delays in scholarships, and rising fees are forcing children from poor families to drop out of school. He said that the lack of jobs affects daughters the most. Due to inadequate security and basic facilities, a large number of female students are forced to discontinue their education, which is a matter of serious concern for the country's development.
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that under the BJP government's tenure, the education and examination system has fallen victim to corruption. From paper leaks to recruitment processes, the entire system has been affected, and the government is avoiding responsibility. He said that if employment had truly been the government's priority, recruitment examinations would not have been repeatedly canceled.
He also questioned the contractual recruitment system, saying that by implementing contractual employment instead of permanent jobs, the reservation system is being weakened. Referring to the recruitment of 69,000 teachers, he alleged that injustice had been done to reservation policies and that the contractual system was undermining social justice.
He claimed that more than 20,000 primary schools have already been closed in Uttar Pradesh and described this as a serious threat to the education system. He said that the Samajwadi Party is committed to making the education and examination system transparent and strong. "If education is good and examinations are good, progress is guaranteed," he said, adding that the party will work with this commitment to provide a better future for the youth.
