New Delhi, 07 July : The southwest monsoon has become fully active across northwestern India, with widespread rainfall expected over the next four to five days in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several states, including Sikkim, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kerala, are likely to receive further heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. In the national capital, light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds is expected at several places on Wednesday morning or afternoon. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain between 32–34 degrees Celsius and 25–27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail on July 9 and 10, while the maximum temperature may rise slightly on Friday compared to Thursday.
As forecast by the IMD, widespread showers across almost all parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday brought significant relief from the prevailing warm and humid weather.
The weather department said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Gujarat and some areas of Rajasthan and Haryana. Conditions are expected to remain favourable for the monsoon to advance over the remaining parts of the northern Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab during the next two to three days, thereby covering the entire country.
Under the influence of the monsoon, isolated locations in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and several other states are likely to experience additional heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall is also expected aacross parts of northern India during the next three days.
In central India, Chhattisgarh, western Madhya Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rainfall between July 8 and 13. In eastern India, rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from July 8 to 10, in Bihar during July 8–9 and again from July 11–13, and in Odisha between July 8 and 13. Heavy rainfall has continued across northeastern India over the past several days and is expected to persist for another five to six days.
In western India, widespread rainfall is likely across parts of Konkan, Goa, Gujarat and neighbouring regions during the next six days. In southern Peninsular India, rainfall is expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana from July 8 to 13; over Kerala and Mahe on July 12 and 13; over Lakshadweep and North Interior Karnataka from July 9 to 13; and over South Interior Karnataka between July 8 and 13.
The IMD has also forecast strong gusty winds accompanying heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of northwestern, central, eastern, western and southern Peninsular India. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30–60 kmph in some areas and 40–70 kmph in others during this period.
