Angul:Panic has spread in Amalapara area,Angul town after Pipe Natural Gas(PNG) leaked from its pipe laid underground in the evening.PNG supply pipe line has been laid to most to most of the residents in the town for domestic use.
A gas pipe line has gone underground at Amalapara of the town.This evening, there was an electric work going on underground canal road where gas pipe has been laid. As there electric drilling was going on in the same area there caused a leakage from gas pipe line.When there is a smell, police and fire officials were alerted .BPCL officials in the town were also called by police to deal with the situation.
The gas started leaking at about 6.30 pm in the evening,according to district fire officer Ramesh Mohanty who rushed to the spot.
BPCL and fire officials stopped two valves from the opposite side in order to block the supply.Still then leakage is continuing now in a lesser magnitude.
Mohanty said efforts are on to put a total stop on the supply and it will take time.He ruled out any damage to the lives and properties as PNG goes vertical on unlike LPG gas.
