Jodhpur, July 4 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the revamped UDAN regional connectivity scheme during a visit to Rajasthan, where he is also set to unveil infrastructure projects worth about 1.06 lakh crore.
Modi arrived at the Jodhpur Air Force Station at around 10:30 am by a special plane and was received by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat as well as other officials.
From the airport, Modi proceeded to the newly constructed terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and inaugurated the facility.
Built at a cost of Rs 480 crore and spread over 3.7 acres, the new terminal has the capacity to handle up to 2 million passengers annually.
The Prime Minister also launched the revamped UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, aimed at accelerating the next phase of regional air connectivity and aviation-led development. The scheme envisages investments of more than Rs 28,000 crore over the next 10 years.
Later, Modi flew by helicopter to Pachpadra in Balotra district to inaugurate India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, developed at an investment of more than Rs 79,000 crore.
At a public function in Pachpadra, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to virtually lay the foundation stone for the Jaipur Metro Rail Phase-II project, estimated to cost Rs 13,000 crore. He will also distribute appointment letters to 54,000 newly recruited government employees as part of the Rozgar Mela initiative.
