ANGUL Five persons ,two of them seriously,were injured in an explosion caused at bunker-B of unit -1 of NTPC-kaniha late last night.Coal is stored in bunkers before going to the mill to generate power in the boiler. There are ten such bunkers in the power plant .
The injured are Khageswar sahu of village Rangbeda,Sukdeb Bhutia of village bijigole,Susanta sahu of Telisingha ,Kishore Pradhan of kamarei and Balram naik of Nalam villge.while Khageswar and sukdeb have been shifted to sum ultimate hospital at Bhubaneswar,the remaining three injured were admitted NTPc hospital here at kaniha .All the injured were from the local villages and are contractual workers.
The cause of the explosion is yet to be known as a high level technical committee is investigating the incident.
According to NTPC PRO kaushal Upadhaya,at about 12.30 am last night a mild explosion took place at Bunker-B of unit 1 of power plant injuring five persons.All the five were immediately shifted to NTPC hospital from where two were referred to sum hospital at Bhubaneswar in serious condition.
The remaining three who were admitted to NTPC hospital are in good condition.Out of these three two have been discharged in the afternoon . He said that as per the report,out of two who were rushed to Bhubaneswar,one is stable but the other was in critical condition.He informed that a high level technical team have rushed to spot to investigate about the cause of the accident.NTPC is bearing all medical expenses of the injured workers.
About 50 workers were deployed in the bunker when the mishap took place.Power generation in the 3000Mw super thermal power plant was normal and has not been affected by the mishap.
