South Africa emerges as Africa's prime cybercrime target as AI fuels attacks: Interpol

Interpol's 40-page African Cyberthreat Assessment Report 2026, released on Monday and based on information collected from 36 African countries, described Southern Africa as "the continent's most digitally advanced and most heavily targeted region," with South Africa accounting for the majority of several major cyberattack categories.
