CHENNAI: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will visit Tamil Nadu on August 1, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K. Manickam Tagore said on Sunday, describing the visit as a significant occasion for the party's cadre and supporters across the state.
The announcement was made by Tagore through a post on social media platform X, following a declaration by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal confirming Rahul Gandhi's proposed visit.
While the itinerary and programme details are yet to be released, the TNCC has begun preparations to accord the Congress leader a grand welcome.
In his message, Tagore said the entire Congress organisation in Tamil Nadu was looking forward to receiving Rahul Gandhi with enthusiasm.
He described the visit as an opportunity to energise party workers and strengthen the Congress' outreach in the state at a time when the party is intensifying its political engagement on a range of national issues.
According to Tagore, Rahul Gandhi has consistently championed the protection of the Constitution, the strengthening of democratic institutions, the promotion of social justice and the safeguarding of opportunities for young people.
He said that these issues continue to resonate with Congress workers and supporters, making the visit particularly significant.
The TNCC Chief said the visit would provide renewed motivation to party functionaries and volunteers, encouraging them to take the party's message to people across Tamil Nadu.
He expressed confidence that the interaction with Rahul Gandhi would inspire grassroots workers ahead of the party's future political programmes in the state.
Extending a formal welcome, Manickam Tagore said the people of Tamil Nadu and the entire Congress family in the state were eager to receive Rahul Gandhi.
He noted that the visit reflects the Congress leadership's continued engagement with Tamil Nadu and its commitment to strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
Tagore also reiterated the party's long-term political objective, expressing hope that the Congress would continue to build public support across the country.
He said that party workers remain committed to working towards seeing Rahul Gandhi emerge as India's Prime Minister after the 2029 general election.
Further details regarding Rahul Gandhi's engagements, public meetings and interactions during the August 1 visit are expected to be announced by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee in the coming days.
