Chennai, Sep 1 (IANS) Revised user fees came into effect at 25 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu from Tuesday, increasing the cost of road travel for private vehicles, commercial carriers and buses.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) operates 77 toll plazas in the state, where charges are generally revised twice a year.

Under the latest revision, toll rates have increased by Rs 5 to Rs 30, depending on the category of vehicle and the toll plaza.

At the Vikravandi toll plaza near Villupuram on the Chennai–Tiruchi National Highway, the single-trip charge for cars, jeeps and passenger vans has risen from Rs 105 to Rs 110.

The fee for multiple journeys has increased from Rs 160 to Rs 165.

Light commercial vehicles will now pay Rs 190 for a single journey, against Rs 185 earlier, while the multiple-trip rate has been raised from Rs 275 to Rs 290.

For buses and trucks, the single-trip fee has gone up from Rs 370 to Rs 385, and the multiple-trip charge from Rs 555 to Rs 575.

At the Sengurichi toll plaza near Ulundurpet, the single-trip fee for cars, jeeps and vans remains unchanged at Rs 70.

However, the multiple-trip charge has increased from Rs 100 to Rs 105.

Light commercial vehicles will be charged Rs 125 for a single journey, up from Rs 120, and Rs 185 for multiple trips, against the previous Rs 180.

The fee for buses and trucks has increased from Rs 240 to Rs 250 for a single journey and from Rs 355 to Rs 375 for multiple trips.

At Vijayamangalam in Erode district, the single-trip charge for cars, jeeps and passenger vans has risen from Rs 70 to Rs 75, while the multiple-trip fee has increased from Rs 105 to Rs 110.

The single-trip charge for light commercial vehicles remains Rs 125, but the multiple-trip rate has climbed from Rs 165 to Rs 190.

Buses and trucks will pay Rs 255 for a single journey and Rs 380 for multiple trips.

At the Kozhinjipatti toll plaza on the Dindigul–Madurai four-lane highway near Kodai Road, cars, jeeps and vans will pay Rs 80 for a single trip and Rs 120 for a return journey.

The corresponding charges were Rs 75 and Rs 115 earlier.

The single-trip fee for light commercial vehicles has risen from Rs 135 to Rs 140, while buses and trucks will now be charged Rs 280 for a single journey and Rs 470 for a return journey.

The revision is expected to raise transportation costs for regular commuters and businesses.
